Road Trip

On Thursday of this week past, I went for a little road trip with my husband and my sister. I am pretty dang lucky to be able to spend most of my time with two of my most favourite people in the world, aren’t I?!

We went to visit our good friends Marty and Bruce, who live in the Barossa Valley.

The countryside is just so beautiful. On the way there, we saw vineyards and almond blossoms lining up in rows beside the highway. It was a lovely dreary day.

When we got there, Marty and Bruce had prepared an amazing happybirthdayjessica spread, which featured some delicious local wine and produce, and some warm freshly baked bread. YUM.

And, oh. my. Their house is just so cool. Imagine living there and waking in the morning, making a cup of tea, and sitting in the morning sun and reading a book. Or snuggling up on the couch with some wine by the fire at night. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful place to live?!

After this lovely little lunch, we left the Barossa with Marty in tow, and headed back to Adelaide. We went comic book shopping, and beer drinking in the city.

What a lovely day!

Hey, have you entered my give away yet? Or liked Other Such Things on Facebook? You should!

There’s only one more day to enter.

Anyway, Happy Sunday to you, wherever you are.

Bike Riding and Creepy Markets

Today was pretty much the best. day. ever. Yeah, I said it.

(This could be attributed partly to the fact that all-in-all, I had a pretty awesome week. I am feeling happier than I have in a long time.)

I am also quite irrationally excited because tomorrow is the start of my Birthday Month!! And I am going to be doing some giveaways over the month, so you can help me celebrate in the excitement. (But more on that later)

Today was a great day. I ‘slept in’ with my husband ; ), read some of my book in bed, started a new TV series, ate a yummy breakfast, and then Dana and I went biking to the Brickwork markets which is about 4km from our house. Oh it was a lovely sunny day, warm, with a slight breeze.

When we returned home, I made indian for dinner – a hot butter chicken, with fragrant tumeric rice and garlic naan bread and natural yoghurt on the side. YUM!

The markets are a bit of an eerie place. People were sparce, and there was so much old stuff. It looked as though nothing had been sold to anyone in about 15 years. I felt as though I may have to pull out some of my apocalyptic zombie survival knowledge; as though we were in a different world.

Some creepy foreign men in dusty suits came up to me and started making kissing sounds. I scowled, and curtly told them to eff off (before I made my way over to Dana, in as hurried but nonchalant a way as possible… pleaseprotectmeIamsosmall). Yeah, that’ll show them! HA! My boyfriend will beat your ass!

I was taken aback by a collection of Polly Pockets in a dusty cabinet. Oh, my heart soared! Do you remember those? Oh, I used to love them as a child! Too bad we didn’t have very many pennies on us, or I would have taken them all some home with me.

Here are some photos of our day:

In other news, I GOT A NEW FACEBOOK PAGE! About time huh?! You should drop on over, click ‘like’ and say hi! It would be great to get a better idea of who you all you lovely people are.

Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. What did you get up to?

International Comic Book Day

Why does my life insist on acting like it’s a living melodrama?

Can anybody tell me??

Since the last time I was able to write, my beautiful cousin Cody fixed my internet – which hadn’t been working for about two weeks. Upon plugging my iphone into my imac (hallo, brand saturation much?), I was prompted to install updates. I clicked ‘Install’, and then promptly left the room to go and have a cup of tea, and faff about the house for a non-descript amount of time. When I returned to my computer, it was all finished, and all good, except for the fact that my desktop photo was missing. Other than that, I thought that all was well.

Until, later that evening, Dana and I were at a pub with some friends, about three a.m. and we both received a message at the same time alerting us that our services had been cut off. I assumed it was because our latest bill was two weeks overdue (which is often the case when out of you and your husband, only one of you is working for about 20 hours per week [whatevs]). But no. Upon ringing the phone company the next day, I discovered that my phone account had racked up OVER three thousand and three hundred dollars worth of excess data!

W. T. F.

After receiving my bill, I called the phone company (whose name shall remain very NOT named) and after some substantial wrangling, (first, three hundred dollars off my bill, second, sixteen hundred off my bill, then three thousand off my bill) I hung up mildly relieved.

Miraculously, two days later, I was called by an Australian not-named phone company representative who offered to waive all of the overcharge. ThankyoujesushallelujahOMFG!

So, all-in-all, I have learnt a very valuable lesson. Never pay a bill on time. And never pay a more-than-normal bill without ringing first!

Anyway, after just having dinner and a whole bottle of wine at my auntie, uncle and cousin’s place, I actually have no idea why I just put you through all that. Sorry.

So, I remember now what I wanted to post about. It was…

International Comic Book Day!!

I attended said event at the Adelaide Comic Centre – and they had all sorts of freebies to give out.

Graffiti and Gratuity

Hello everybody!

Oh, I cannot express just how relieved and kinda excited I am to be writing to you today. My beautiful big cousin Cody came over for dinner tonight, and HE FIXED MY INTERNET FOR ME. Oh wow, isn’t it great?

I feel like I haven’t posted for aaages. Instead of being an internet moocher, I have been busy having a real life. Woah crazy. Dana and I have had friends for dinner, we have had family over for dinner, we have gone exploring and done some photo shoots, I’ve been hanging out with my sisters, and I’ve also started seeing my lovely uncle and auntie three times a week at their chiropractic clinic.

After some xrays, I have discovered that I have some pretty serious scoliosis going on. So, three adjustment and tractioning visits per week for the next twelve weeks for me. And I don’t mind this so much, as it is a great feeling to actually be doing something good for myself, and it is also a great excuse to see my family more often. Even though I know I don’t need an excuse.

[Who says that? "Oh yeah, well, the scoliosis is going really well for me actually. It's providing me with a great excuse to see my family." I really am a loser.]

My sister and I have also pretty much finished writing our business plan, and we have had meetings with our business mentor, and with our accountant too.

I also started watching season two of the Sopranos (which only has one disc to go), I’m pretty sure I have washed my hair a couple of times, and I’ve done a fair chunk of op-shopping as well.

So, it’s been a pretty productive couple of weeks I guess.

Now, I will get to the point soon, and will post up some recent photos, but first I also want to let you know that Thrifty Thursday will be a bit late this week. Reason being that I don’t want to post two Thrifty Thursdays in a row, without anything in between.

Last Sunday after church, Dana and I went exploring on some of the alley ways off of Hindley Street in Adelaide city. There’s some pretty mean street art that I’ve been wanting to go see and take some photos of. Also, I had been bugging Dana to take some photos of me for a while now, and I think he did a pretty awesome job! Don’t you?

As we were busy taking photos, we heard people entering the alley way, and glass smashing onto the pavement. These two men appeared from around the corner. They were very drunk (I suspect they had started on Saturday night), even though it was 2.00 pm on Sunday. I was immediately afraid; Not of imminent death, mind you (as that would be the rational fear), but rather, I saw mental pictures of them snatching my camera from me and breaking it to bits.

Luckily, all they wanted was for me to take their photo. Obviously, I obliged so that if we did end up being killed, at least there would be some photographical evidence of the culprit. However, we escaped unscathed, and now I live to tell the tale.

When we got home, Dana took some more photos of me out the front of our house.

Wascally Wabbit

Hey Everyone!

HAPPY FRIDAY!! Friday is just one of those naturally exciting days, isn’t it?

I wanted to post today – even though I don’t normally, because I was supposed to post on Tuesday, and I was such a busy bee, that I didn’t get enough time.

I was out helping Michelle (my sister) with preparations for my nephew Samuel’s 6th birthday.

We bought ourselves Sam a bunny! And oh, it is just so adorable, and soft and twitchy and cute. Gah!.

The lady at the pet shop put her in this box.
bunny in a box

Then Michelle and I waited for Dana to finish work (we were at the markets), and decided to stop in at the pub for some apple cider, bunny in tow.

Welcome to the family bunny.

That night, because it wasn’t Sam’s birthday until the next day, I suggested to keep Ginger (the bunny’s name) in our room overnight, so Samuel wouldn’t see her.

Bad choice. She spent alldamnnight fussing about in the pile of newspaper we put in her cage. I don’t think I slept much at all!

Anyway, Sam’s birthday was a success, and he loved the bunny.

meet Ginger!

And that’s why I didn’t post on Tuesday.

Here’s what I was actually going to post about:

A couple of weeks ago, Michelle and I dropped Dana off at work in the markets, and then her and I stayed there to get some groceries.

We found this cool wall off of Grote St in the city, and decided to take some photos:

Also, I have been meaning to share the most creepy thing about the markets. There is a certain children’s ride that is capable of striking fear and loathing (and not in the good Hunter S. Thompson kind of way) into the heart of even the most seasoned individual – let alone a child.

blugeon

This creepy koala ride looks like it is about to bludgeon you in the face with its bleeding heart. WHO would ride that? WTF?

And this other crazy horse… well, it reminds me of ‘Hypnotoad’ from Futurama:

crazy horse

Anyway, enough of that. After the groceries had been bought, Michelle drove home, and I waited at the markets for Dana to finish work and read my Oyster magazine.

Then we walked home together. And what a lovely hour it was! I was able to observe things I normally would have overlooked if I were driving in the car.

So, this weekend is going to be a great one I think. Tonight I am having my nephew Jayquin over for a sleepover. I think we’ll go get gelati. Great choice for winter Jess. But either way, he is such a lovely little boy, and I’m really looking forward to hanging out with him.

Then, tomorrow, I will be baking in the morning, and then we are having a ‘making party’ for Sam, followed by attending a going away party/romp for a friend. Then Sunday, probably watch TV series in bed on the imac, and then the usual dinner at my brother’s house.

What are your plans for the weekend?? Tell me, tell me!

Whatever your weekend holds, I truly hope it is a great one for you.

x Jessica

PS. Please leave me comments. I am somewhat of a comment whore. (If I may be so brash.) But, srsly, I ♥ comments. kthxbye
